INTRODUCTION

The Ankuran Year.

Our weekly sessions build understanding. Our annual events build excitement. Each signature event is planned around the same belief as everything else we do: students learn science best when they do it themselves, with others, in a place that welcomes their curiosity.

Summer Camp

DURING : Late May and Early June
Held every year in late May and early June, Ankuran’s 10-day Summer Camp offers students a joyful mix of science, creativity, wellness, and exploration. Through hands-on activities, outdoor learning, and interest-based sessions, children experience learning beyond textbooks while developing curiosity, confidence, teamwork, and practical life skills in an engaging and supportive environment.

Interschool Chess Competition

DURING : Third week of August
Organised in the third week of August, Ankuran’s Interschool Chess Competition brings young minds together for a day of strategy, focus, and healthy competition. The event encourages logical thinking, patience, decision-making, and sportsmanship, helping students experience how learning happens through challenges, discipline, and reflection.

Science Exhibition

DURING : Second week of January
Held in the second week of January, Ankuran’s Science Exhibition celebrates curiosity, experimentation, and student innovation. Learners present models, experiments, and scientific ideas developed through observation and hands-on exploration. The exhibition reflects Ankuran’s belief that science becomes meaningful when students experience, question, create, and explain it themselves.

Summer Camp 2026

Ankuran Summer Camp

The summer holidays, spent discovering.

Every summer, Ankuran Centres turn the school holidays into a camp for curious minds. Over the camp, students come together to experiment in the labs, enjoy Fun with Science sessions and try new hobbies, guided by Ankuran’s educators through the ERTA approach: Explore, Reflect, Think, Apply.

There are no exams and no lectures. Students perform experiments in our Physics, Chemistry and Biology labs. They take part in Fun with Science sessions, where science becomes play, surprise and laughter. And they are introduced to a range of hobbies, so that every student can find something they love. Many of them make friends and discover passions that stay with them long after the camp ends.

The camp is a signature event of every Ankuran Centre. Each Centre runs it at its own location, so that children in Durgapur, Madurai and Trichy can all take part.

What students do?

Experiment — Hands-on activities in our labs, with every student doing the work.
Fun with Science — Playful, surprising sessions that show how much fun science can be.
Discover Hobbies — An introduction to a variety of hobbies, so that every student can find something they love.
Make Friends — Time spent with students from other schools, learning and playing together.

Interschool Chess Competition

Every move is a lesson in thinking.

Every year, each Ankuran Centre hosts a chess competition for school students. Players come to the Centre to compete in age groups up to 17 years, and to meet students from other schools. Students can enter on their own, and schools can nominate their players.

Chess teaches what science teaches: to look carefully, to think ahead, to test an idea and to learn from a mistake. It matches the way Ankuran teaches, which is to explore, reflect, think and apply.

The competition is a signature event of every Ankuran Centre, run at its own location, so students in Durgapur, Madurai and Trichy can all take part. It is open to all school students up to the age of 17, and government and government-aided schools are especially welcome.

Why it matters?

Think — Planning, patience and problem-solving under time pressure.
Compete — A friendly contest where every school student can take part.
Connect — A chance to meet and play students from other schools.

Who and when?

For: School students up to the age of 17, who play in separate age groups.
When: Once every year at each Centre.
Where: At all Centres

Ankuran Science Exhibition

Where students become the scientists and the teachers.

Once a year, each Ankuran Centre opens its doors for a Science Exhibition. Students of Classes VIII to XII, working in groups of up to four, set up working models, experiments and projects, and explain them to visitors in their own words.

Preparing for the exhibition is a learning journey in itself. Students choose an idea, test it, fix what does not work and learn to explain it clearly. On the day, they present to classmates, teachers, parents and guests, and see that their work matters to others.

The Science Exhibition is a signature event of every Ankuran Centre, run at its own location in Durgapur, Madurai and Trichy. It is open to families, schools and the wider community.

What you will see?

Working models — Projects that students built and can demonstrate.
Live experiments — Experiments in Physics, Chemistry and Biology that visitors can try.
Student presenters — Young explainers who walk visitors through their ideas.
Open to all — Parents, teachers and neighbours are welcome to visit and ask questions.

Who and when?

For: open to all students of Classes VIII to XII, who form a group of up to four (a smaller group is also allowed) and register as a team. Schools can also nominate their teams. Visitors from the community are welcome.
When: Once every year at each Centre.
Where: At all Centres

EXPLORE Guest Lectures at every centre

Ankuran Guest Lectures

Meet the people who make science and ideas work in the real world.

Through the year, each Ankuran Centre invites eminent people to speak to students: scientists, engineers, doctors, teachers, innovators and professionals, as well as experts on topics that matter to young people today, such as science in everyday life, careers, technology, health and the environment.

Each lecture is short, simple and built for school students. Speakers show, explain and answer questions, and students leave with something to think about and someone to look up to. For many of them, it is the first time they meet a scientist or an engineer in person.

Guest lectures are a regular part of every Ankuran Centre’s year and are held at each Centre, in Durgapur, Madurai and Trichy. Students of partner schools are invited, and teachers and parents are welcome to attend.

What to expect?

Eminent speakers — Experts and achievers from science, engineering, medicine and other fields.
Relevant topics — Subjects chosen to connect with what students learn and what they want to become.
Ask anything — Time set aside for students to put their own questions to the speaker.
Open to schools — Partner-school students, teachers and parents are invited.

Who and when?

For: School students, teachers and parents.
When: Through the year, at each Centre. Please do not show specific speakers or dates on this page. Upcoming lectures can be shared by email and on the Contact page.
